Throw in a spin

I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike.........but, being ready for an epic ride is lots of work and requires lots of time. My solution is-Take a Spinning Class! An hour long spinning class is not only a great way to get a super aerobic workout, it also keeps you ready for those big rides. If you haven't done one before, there are plenty of beginners classes, but once you hit the tough class, with a good instructor, be ready for a world class workout. Too much fun!!

Keeping with the Program

Sometime our very best intentions get us no where! We all struggle from time to time to stay on the path, its the ones that continue to rise up over the setbacks that become great. In life, fitness, martial arts, our jobs, whatever area we struggle in can be over come with the perseverance to continue or even restart our plan. Take some time, schedule out your plan and do EVERYTHING in your power to be successful. All I can promise is that if you try, you will always be more successful than if you don't. Happy training and see ya soon!

Getting Back on Track

Sometimes we all fall off the Fitness Wagon. It might be due to an injury, work, family problems, sickness, or, in my most recent case, moving. Lets face it, moving is tough on your fitness program, your entire routine is messed up, schedules are out the window, but, we have to persevere and get back on track when the dust settles. That isn't as easy as it seems, how quickly we get out of the habit of working out!! So, here is my schedule for the first week of fitness reclamation: Monday: 45 Minute Hike; Tuesday: 3X supersets of Push ups and Pull ups and 3X sets of 25 crunches; Wednesday: 45 Minute Hike; Thursday: 60 Minutes of Yoga; Friday: 3X supersets of Push ups and Pull ups and 3X sets of 25 crunches; Saturday: 45 Minute Hike and 30 Minutes of Stretching. This simple, quick routine is great for getting back in the swing of things, so try it and like it!! :) See ya all soon and happy training.

Ready to go!!

August is almost over, school is ready to begin as is one of my favorite times of year. I just love fall, seems like the routines get in place, everything settles down a bit, the crazy days of summer come to an end and life "gets normal" to whatever degree that is possible. Anyhow, here is what is around the fitness corner:
Sept. 1st begins the 30 day complete body makeover. PH balancing, super workouts, and total healthy eating, I will be blogging each day so you can take part in the program if you wish, should be wonderful and invigorating, give it a try! See ya all soon.

Long Time Comming

August is here and I have been taking a little time off camping, getting ready to move, working, taking care of Fred's Dogs, trying to squeeze a little exercise in here and there. Weight is perfectly maintaining and ready to really kick into gear the first of September when we get back into the "routine" of school and fall. Sure enjoying summer and have a couple of great adventures coming soon so be watching.

All I can say is This is one tough workout!

So, stuck at 205 pounds still, but, haven't been dieting at all, so, not disappointed very much. I have been doing this one workout once per week and it is HARD!! Its an interval workout, 30 moves, each 1 minute long, each pretty easy, but here is how it goes: Running in place; 20 seconds nice and easy, 20 seconds medium speed and 20 seconds as hard as you can. Each exercise is done this way and among others, they include: Jump squats, Mary Catherine's, Squat jumping jacks, squat thrusts with a push ups and much more. For more info, check out my workout website in a week or so once I get it updated.

A goal almost met!

Alright, when I started my Fitness Quest I had a goal in mind, that goal changed about 2 months ago, but I did hit a milestone this week. After a great week of workouts, "OK" eating (over did it a few times) and tons of aerobic exercise, I hit my initial goal of 205 pounds. I changed my goal sometime in may to 195 pounds, but it still felt pretty good to hit the initial goal that seemed sooooo far off and sooooo impossible to hit at the beginning of the year when i weighed in at almost 260 pounds. Next big step is seeing a "1" on the scale when I step on it, that will really be something and I can't wait. Be watching for the next big mark being hit, and wish me luck.

Getting a little sore

Even after countless workouts I found a way to get really sore! On Saturday morning I was all inspired to workout. It was leg day and I felt really good. I have done this workout I don't know how many times. Anyhow, I changed it up a bit by doing every exercise with perfect form and until I couldn't do anymore reps. Deep squats, holding movements a little longer, etc. Sunday morning I woke up with sore legs, not bad, but sore, I was a little suprised. Yesterday my legs were so sore I could hardly walk! Talk about sore, geeze, not even sure what up with that, the workout must have worked well. Today, Tuesday, they are still sore but better, should even be able to go for a run tomorrow. Great workout, but paying the price, don't seem to heal up as quickly as I used to :)

a rough july so far

workouts have been great this past week, however, diet has been rough, with the seafood festival and cake for Anah and Stevens birthday on the first, the big BBQ party on the 4th, big work lunch on the 6th and Isaiah's sushi and burger party last night, I haven't been doing too well in the eating dept. Haven't gained, but haven't lost anything, but, no harm, no foul. Next week should go much better. Micah will be at camp all week, we have a busy schedule and a new workout rotation. Will get lots of exercise this weekend with fun and work, looking forward to hitting the next mark and moving forward!!

Weekly Update

After a week of various activities from running to hiking, skateboarding to kayaking, the new workouts have begun. Over the past week I have layed off the weights and increased calories to let my body heal, and heal it has, ready for the new run of workouts. Weight is staying at a good 210 but ready for the next 10 pound drop. Updates on the tough workouts coming soon, wish me luck and have a great day!

Happy 4th of July Weekend

I am on a little vacation this week from work, enjoying family and enjoying my time away from the stress of work. Went for a great run yesterday morning, went skateboarding (bruised my behind in a fall however) then did a great morning workout. Seem to be stuck at 209 pounds but I haven't really been eating too good this week, with the kids birthday, holiday bbq's and all, but am maintaining. Also, beginning next week is a month long intense training session so I am enjoying the time off. Hope everyone is having a great 4th of july and see ya all soon!!!

Another Week of Great Workouts

Squeezing workouts into a tight schedule isn't always easy, but, I keep telling myself "i've come this far, can't quit now!" This week was full of great workouts including the usual core, total body, yoga and martial arts workouts, the chest is still hurt, but at about 3/4 breathing status (I can only fill my lungs about 3/4th of the way before the pain hits) so my aerobic is suffering a little. Eating habits are going well and its all paying off, another milestone this week buy breaking the "0" barrier in my weight, thats right, 209.5 pounds as of this morning! I am thinking about 15 more pounds to go and about 8 weeks of really pushing workouts and I will be in the very best shape of my life. The weekend holds great promise, Martial Arts on Saturday morning, have to work the rest of the day on Saturday, Skateboarding Sunday morning and Downhill mountian biking on Suday Afternoon, should be an epic weekend! Its almost the end of June and really getting ready for July to be a GREAT month indeed. More later, happy training.

A happy Fathers Day indeed

A great week of workouts, have a whole new schedule, upper body on Monday and Friday, Intervals on Tuesday, Total body and Martial Arts on Wednesday, Yoga thursdays, Martial arts on saturdays and throughout the week various aerobics and even some Sunday morning Skateboarding. Rolled in at 212 pounds, down a couple again, maybe this week I will break through another "10" spot and be in the 0's!! Ribs are almost healed, maybe another week or so, so I am starting to feel good again. Looking forward to the next week of workouts and can't wait to really push it. Will be checking in soon, happy training!

Another week

Another week in the books, and, everything considered, a pretty good one. My injury (Hurt ribs from Kung Fu) pretty much shut my workouts down over the last week, did manage to get in a good bike ride and a good run, tossed in one plyo and a light Kung Fu workout. Ate very well and am almost better, also, lost a few more pounds, weighed in today at 214, getting much closer to the target and, inching toward the next mark of the "0's"! The next week or so should put me right in there! Of course, my goal weight of 195 is still almost 20 pounds away but is getting in sight. Plan for the next week (ribs being ok with it) is to launch the new phase of the workout! Kind of exciting and should be GREAT. See ya next week.

Midweek post

Busy week but still managed to reach fitness goals, Monday I had a good run and good strength training, Tuesday, plyo's were awesome! Wednesday the shoulders and arms took a beating but came out stronger, also on Wednesday had a great freestyle session at Kung Fu, although am a little injured today. Am hoping that my hurt ribs will not affect my running and biking on Friday and Sunday, but the sure hurt today! Also, a milestone has been met, weight is 217 pounds, got to drop another "10" mark which is always GREAT! By the end of June, I should be into the "200's"! now, with 20 pounds of weight loss to go, am really starting to feel great (except my hurt ribs).

Fitness Update

Great week for the Fitness program. Workouts were fantastic, actually enjoying yoga! Hit plyos and weights agressively this week and also worked hard on eating healthy, the good news, weight is down to 221, next week I should break the 220 mark, always a good mark for me to hit! The next two weeks is the last two of the current phase of my workout, its been a long haul, 3 months, but is really paying off, I am a little nervous about being able to get into the level of fitness to complete the sprint triathlon in only 4 weeks, but will give it my very best. Time will tell! More later.

Memorial Day Monday

After a much needed day off yesterday I am on the program today, first thing, 3 mile run/hike up lone pine state park, cliff trail to park trail loop, great run for sure. Next, Chest, shoulders and triceps followed by some yard work and a nice relaxing kayak down the flathead river. Tonight am going off the "wagon" a little and enjoying a couple of hot dogs, some shrimp salad and baked beans, should be a banner day all in all, a great kick off to summer. Up coming week will be hard concentration on loosing a few pounds and heavy weight lifting with sessions of plyos and yoga thrown in. The fitness quest is going very well and I couldn't be happier with progress.

A great week of workouts

This last week had a great week of workouts and really felt the progress. Eating healthy went pretty good and the combo of the two paid off. Lost a few more pounds, down to 225 and falling right along schedule. Highlights were the long Yoga workout, my form and ability in this area has grown significantly and felt really good about it. Actually, all the workouts felt great. The upcoming week promises to be challenging, mixing up the workouts again! Only 4 weeks left on the current program, getting close and am pretty committed to getting it done.

Fitness Update

Workouts are going pretty darn good right now, after 10 weeks of working on it, I finally made it through a complete 90 cycle of yoga! The running has been great and falling right into place, abs, no problem, weight lifting, pull ups, leg day, martial arts, plyometrics.....all no problem, the hardest workout is yoga! Its long and taxing but yesterday I finally got through it with style. After gaining a few pounds during a week of travel and eating a little too much, I am back on the right track, down a few more pounds to 227. Almost 30 pounds down from the start and moving in the right direction. Hoping to meet the ultimate goal around the middle of July. Hard work, good eating and determination will pay off.

Friday Weigh-in

Well, I made it through the Denver trip, fell off the diet wagon a bit with all the great food, but got right back on it when i got home. I did workout a few times in Denver, noticed the change in altitude for sure, it was good though. Workouts are going great, seems like i have been tired but once I get going, they are great! Weight is rolling along, down a bit more, not bad considering the eating at the Dish Convention, currently at 227.5, dang near 30 pounds from my peak of 256! Am continuing to work hard and am dedicated to really pushing in during the next month. Favorite workouts currently are my Martial Arts and Plyometrics workouts, toughest is the yoga day! Next week begins phase three and I am really looking forward to making it Xtreme! See ya all later.

Sunday, May 10, 2009

What a Week

Spent the week in Denver at a Dish Network convention, ate too much, only worked out twice but did stay on the program basically, the upcoming week is a "recovery week" in my workout so will really hit the flexibility and yoga hard and be ready for the next month of working my tail off, still below 230 so on track weight wise, I will be checking in soon!

Rare Mid-week post

For a rare mid-week update, just wanted to "toot my horn" a little. Tomorrow I head to Denver for a business trip, my goal was to be in the 220's somewhere before my trip. I weighed in this morning, 229! Feel good about making my goal, started this journey at 256, 27 pounds down, 29 to go, basically at the half way mark!! couldn't be happier! The P90X workout has been really tough but I have gotten it down and now am really seeing the benifits, also, adding a good run in the mornings 3 days a week has been really helpful as well. See ya all soon, hoping to really keep it up during the trip.

Kickin it up a Notch!

What a week of workouts! Heavy weights, lots and lots of push-ups and pull-ups, great Martial Arts, intense Yoga (hardest day of the week), Abs, core strength, running and more. Down a few more pounds, hoping to be down a few more before having to travel, working on my travel workouts. Weight: 233 and counting, goal in the next week: in the 220's (even 229 would be nice). More next week, happy training.

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Another Week, Another pound or two

Workouts are in full gear, running every other morning, lifting every other day, doing heavy aerobics, martial arts, yoga, really getting into shape, down a few more pounds, still have about 30 to go, however, checked the blood pressure, oxegen levels, resting heart, all came back great, 118/75, 64 resting heart, 98% oxygen levels, the doc said "like a 20 year old", that was nice, was a little nervous to go in but now feel great. more next week.

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Workout Week

Workouts have been GREAT, I am really enjoying the new plan that can be seen on the Fitness website linked here. After a week of stretching and Core work, its time to "kick it up a notch". Starting to see real results and starting to finish the workouts in good form and much faster recovery, the next three week "pulse" should really be interesting. Weight has been heading in the right direction, started this series weighing in at 252, currently 237 so a solid loss of 15 lbs, am shooting for 10 more over the next month and 20 additional by summer with an ultimate goal of hitting under 200 by mid-August.

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Workouts!

Workouts have been exceptionally hard but great! Micah has been joing and we are both getting into much better shape. The upcoming week is a recovery week for our muscles so the week will consist of Yoga, Core work, Stretching and Martial Arts. This will be a great week and get us ready for the following three weeks, which will be very intense! See ya soon and happy workouts.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Back to workouts

The last two weeks have seen grueling workouts, each day an hour and a half of nothing but hard work. Its paying off and man are we getting into shape. Our current schedule is Chest, Back and Abs on Monday, Plyometics on Tuesday, Arms, Shoulders and Abs on Wednesday, Extreme Yoga on Thursday, Legs, Back and Abs of Friday and Martial Arts on Saturday. Add to that Running on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and you've got one intense workout! More later.

Not a good week

Alright, enough excuses, enough "putting it off to tomorrow", enough lack of disipline, I MUST work hard over the next week in order to get to my goals. Tough week, very busy at work, staying up to late, not getting up early enough, really need to concentrate hard!!

Week Four, Day One

Great Day, ate well, exercised hard, got my 30 min's running, lasted very well and enjoyed the time listening to tunes. Haven't lost any weight, still at 247 but down four pounds, this should be a great week in the fitness zone. I also found a great online zone to track my Triathlon Training, which is pretty cool, the big push won't start until Feb. 15th, the day after we get back from Portland.

Its a New Day

After a good day of COLD skiing and a re-assessment of my goals, its a NEW DAY in the fitness arena for me, its one thing to decide to make a change, its quite another to follow through. Staying focused with my eyes on the prize, make it all worth while. More energy and fitness for better skiing, a higher quality summer and better health. Can't ask much more for a few minutes each day!

Friday, January 23, 2009

Tough Week

After a great week last week and a wonderful weekend of skiing, I dropped the ball a little this week, refocus time and killer week three, didn't completely fall off the fitness wagon, made two runs, missed one, did one resistance workout, missed one, got too busy with everything, stayed up too late and didn't make the right decisions in diet. Watch for next week!

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Week 2, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

I was staying up too late last week and my workouts suffered. Next week, early to bed, early to rise. My workouts felt weak due to being tired but, I made the resistance workout on Thursday and the Run on Friday, however, on Saturday, i had a whole day of skiing, skiied countless runs and was able to do so nicely, first day of the year, i suffered trying to get 4 or 5 runs, yesterday I hit at least a dozen runs and did them nicely. What a great day!

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Week 2, Mon,Tues, and Wed

I missed my daily update for a few days but didn't miss my workouts! I had a great workout on Monday morning, great run, 30 minutes level 3; good workout on Tuesday, did my 2x10 pull ups; 2x20 squats and pushups and 2x25 crunches. Wednesday, although rather tired, i managed to do my 30 minutes level 3, not as strong as monday but still good. I also weighed in on Monday, current weight was 249, down three pounds, lots to go, but making headway.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Week 1, Friday

Made it through the first week of workouts, this morning at 5am i did 30 minutes on the treadmill on level 3, nice run/walk and its starting to feel good. My diet suffered a little today and i need to focus on that next week, all in all, a good first week of workouts. Next week the goal is to get the diet in check in order to begin the great weight loss. I am also going to schedule a "total body cleanse" in the near future.

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Week 1, Thursday

Pretty good but I was a little light on veggies so i ate a bunch of raw carrots. I also got in my Martial Arts practice done.

It went rather well, I did my 30 minutes of jogging/walking, worked up a good sweat, maybe ate a little much for lunch but controlled my dinner. Official start day weight is 252 pounds, 7 more than i thought I weighed, so its a good thing I am starting! Did study 10 Martial Arts lessons, Day one Complete and, a success.

Happy New Years, let the suffering begin!

Its 2009 and I am motivated to succeed in this plan, have Isaiah and Micah on board to try to get ready for the Triathlon in June, Isaiah has the shortest trip since he is in pretty good shape to start with, Monday all the work kicks off, so i will be a little sore and tired for a few weeks, the pay-off will be great, wish me luck, will be posting daily beginning the 5th.
